How to Add “Social Media Handles” to Your Content Credentials

Adding social media handles to your Content Credentials cryptographically binds your online identity to the metadata of your exported images. Unlike traditional EXIF copyright tags that can be edited by anyone, handles linked through Adobe’s Content Authenticity system are verified through OAuth authentication or web domain records. Once attached, your accounts appear as verified author credentials whenever your image is inspected on Adobe Verify or supported social platforms.

Fast Fix

In Photoshop, open Window > Content Credentials, click the settings gear icon, scroll to Producer, and click Connect Accounts. Log in to verify your social profile (such as Behance or X) in the browser window. After authenticating, toggle the connected account On in the panel and export your image using File > Export > Export As.

Overview: Verified Identity vs. Plaintext EXIF

Traditional image metadata (EXIF/IPTC) permits anyone to type any name into the “Author” field:

Traditional EXIF (Plaintext)
[Author: Jane Doe] ──► Anyone can overwrite or delete with free software.

C2PA Content Credentials (Cryptographically Bound)
[Author: Jane Doe] ──► Authenticated via Adobe ID / OAuth Token
                   ──► Linked to: behance.net/janedoe
──► Bound to: verified-domain.com (DNS TXT Check)
──► Encrypted with Adobe Private Key (Tamper-evident)

By linking verified accounts, you ensure that if an unauthorized party re-posts your work, viewers inspecting the credentials can trace the asset directly back to your official portfolio.

Step-by-Step Configuration Guide

Step 1: Access the Content Credentials Panel

  1. Open Photoshop.
  2. Go to Window > Content Credentials to open the panel.
  3. If the panel is off, set the toggle in the upper right to On.
  4. Click the gear icon (Settings) in the top-right corner of the panel.

Producer:
  Name: Jane Doe
  Accounts: [ Connect Accounts... ]

Information to Include:
  [X] Producer
  [X] Edits and activity

Step 2: Authenticate Your Social Accounts

  1. In the settings view, locate the Producer section and click Connect Accounts.
  2. Photoshop will open your default web browser and direct you to the Adobe Content Authenticity account portal.
  3. Under Connected Accounts, choose the platform you wish to link:
    • Behance: Authenticates automatically via your active Creative Cloud account.
    • X (Twitter): Authenticates via standard OAuth login.
    • Instagram / Threads: Requires logging in to confirm profile ownership.
    • Web Domain: Provides a cryptographic DNS TXT record to add to your website host.
  4. Click Authorize to grant Adobe permission to confirm public account ownership.
  5. Return to Photoshop. Your linked profile will now appear under the connected accounts list.

Step 3: Configure Display Preferences

You can choose which verified accounts to publish on a per-document basis:

  1. Return to Window > Content Credentials.
  2. Under Producer, verify that your name and desired handles are checked:
    • [X] Display Name (Jane Doe)
    • [X] @janedoe (Behance)
    • [X] @janedoe_photo (X / Twitter)
  3. If you are producing work for a client that requires privacy or non-disclosure, uncheck your accounts or refer to Why “Anonymized” Credentials May Still Flag Your Work as AI.

Step 4: Export with Bound Identity

For your handles to be permanently signed into the asset:

  1. Go to File > Export > Export As…
  2. In the right-hand panel under Content Credentials, ensure Status shows active.
  3. Set Storage to Publish to Content Credentials cloud (recommended) or Attach to files.
  4. Click Export.

Export As: Manifest Preview Summary

Producer: Jane Doe
Verified Links: behance.net/janedoe, x.com/janedoe_photo
Digital Signature: Valid (Adobe CA)

Verifying Your Published Handles

After exporting, confirm that your social links are visible to the public:

  1. Open your web browser and go to How to Verify an Image Using the Adobe Verify Website.
  2. Drop your exported file into the inspection tool.
  3. In the right-hand panel under Produced By, your name will appear alongside clickable, verified links to your social profiles.
  4. If the credentials panel displays an error or fails to load your profile, consult Fixing “Preview Unavailable” in the Credentials Panel.
